Over 100 patrons were greeted with a variety of Bainbridge Island Youth artistic talents at “The Cure is Now 2014”, a cocktail reception and auction at the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art, hosted by the Make Some Noise: Cure Kids Cancer – Northwest Junior Board to benefit research for childhood cancer at the Seattle Children’s Hospital Research Institute’s Ben Towne Center for Childhood Cancer Research.
The event was the brain child of Bainbridge Island’s Tally Black-Brown, a member of the Junior Board, and himself a childhood cancer survivor.Junior Board members staffed the event, along with the non-profit’s Board and a number of other Bainbridge youth, who donated their time and talent to help advance the cause for childhood cancer. The keynote speaker was Dr. Michael C. Jensen who described the issues with pediatric cancers, the lack of funding on a national level, and the promising T-Cell immunotherapy research being conducted at his Seattle based Olive Lab.
Board President Jack Sutherland, left, with Taliesin Black-Brown, a Junior Board member and event organizer, and Kevin Joyce, auctioneer
Milton Wright III, a successful T-Cell clinical trial patient also participated and described his experiences, and gratitude for the life-saving treatment received after twice relapsing with leukemia.
All proceeds will go to Dr. Jensen’s research at Seattle Children’s. Members of our Junior Board will make the presentation to Dr. Jensen at his laboratory.
