Volunteers staff the Taste of Lynwood booth
September was National Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month, and the annual A Taste of Lynwood event gave us the opportunity again this year to present a fun activity booth and promote awareness of childhood cancer and our efforts to help fund critical research. Our extremely popular Fish Pond attracted hundreds of youngsters “fishing” for noise makers, while simultaneously donating to research. Due to booth expense underwriting by our Board of Directors, ticket sales and donations enable Make Some Noise – NW to grant an added $1,220 to Immunotherapy research at Seattle Children’s. We wish to thank all those who support our Mission.
The 2nd Annual Baker Hill Challenge Fun Run took place prior to the opening of A Taste of Lynwood. This year, for the first time, race organizers decided that a portion of the registration fees paid by participants would go to Make Some Noise – NW and pediatric cancer research. Favorable running weather saw a physically fit and enthusiastic group leave the starting point and take on the Baker Hill Challenge. The event included the crowning of the King and Queen of the Hill and the Baker Hill Fitness Challenge. Net proceeds donated to Make Some Noise, which will be granted to research at Seattle Children’s, were $980. Race organizer and Make Some Noise – NW Board member Sal DeRosalia of CrossFit Outcome declared that the 2014 Baker Hill Challenge will be even bigger and better and again raise kids cancer research funding!
